This award recognizes a graduate or professional student who has been judged the most outstanding in character, scholarship, leadership, and service to the University. Graduate Education Advancement Board Impact Award recognizes and showcases graduate student research that has a direct impact on the state of North Carolina. Research can be in its early stages, currently ongoing, or completed. Research that impacts society in general, including North Carolina, will also be considered. To recognize the scholarly contributions of UNC-Chapel Hill doctoral students as revealed through their dissertation projects and to highlight the timely completion of doctoral training. Students cannot apply directly for this award but are nominated by their graduate program. The selection criteria include the following: originality, innovativeness, scholarly excellence, methodological sophistication, and significant contribution to the discipline.

Global Partnership Awards are designed to develop and sustain partnerships between UNC-Chapel Hill and international institutions, typically colleges or universities. Awards are made to support Carolina faculty, staff and graduate students who engage in or develop opportunities for collaborative activity, with preference given to proposals that include designated UNC-Chapel Hill strategic or key partners although applications can involve other international institutions. Awards are typically used for travel and accommodation expenses to visit a partner to facilitate joint research or course development, organize conferences or workshops, present lectures, provide training, serve on graduate student committees or engage in other collaborative activities. O ther types of expenses may be allowed to support collaborative activity.
