Ghostwriting on Wikipedia involves organizations and individuals bypassing the conflict-of-interest guideline by supplying approved drafts of articles about themselves. They may write the material in-house or hire external PR professionals. Volunteer editors copy the material into the encyclopaedia as though it had been written independently. Wikipedia has no mechanism for signalling to its readers that an article has been ghostwritten. The practice is not against Wikipedia's rules, but is controversial.
From September until June I wrote more than blog posts. A few were in the 4, range and one was more than 10, words. For each article, I generated ideas, wrote outlines and finished drafts. The research was deep, the editing long. Each article took me between four and eight hours to complete. Furthermore, I wrote on topics outside of my normal discipline copywriting and advertising : advanced search engine optimization techniques, business innovation, startup challenges and web analytics.
Everyone has knowledge to share, but not everyone has the writing expertise to convey it. Entrepreneurs hire ghost writers because, though they have extensive industry knowledge, they may struggle articulating it into engaging content, which is necessary to increase brand awareness and build a consumer base. Hiring a writer solves both problems. Ghostwriters can be used to write content in many formats, including books, speeches, website content, articles and more.
