Sisters, the people who think it's really funny to get you in trouble. At least that's what my sisters like. I'm Sarah Oakland and my sister is named Claudia. She's the one who never gets in trouble and the one that gets whatever she wants. It's pretty unfair actually, before she was born my parents would want to play with me everyday and now they spend a lot more time with her.
Brother and Sister, by George Eliot | Poeticous: poems, essays, and short stories
Hundreds of grueling responsibilities over the house, the family, the siblings and even the simplest things like food choices, household chores, homeworks and projects of the younger siblings. I remember one time when my parents attended a certain gathering in Manila and they were off the whole night! They left in the afternoon and promised me to come back at the morning of the next day. I was perplexed.
This drew a wedge between not only my brother and I, however my father and I to. Feeling alone from all of this, my escapes were when I had dance, tennis, band, or ski practice. I was missing school crying daily, and was haunted by suicidal thought. I never knew if my depression would spiral so bad, I would finally ended it all like I had craved for so…. I found a really cheap apartment with my boyfriend and shortly after I relieved the most precious gift ever.
The second child would not only divide the attention of their parents, but also finances and resources as well. At first it impact the first child to be more demanding attention, and more clingy toward the parent. However eventually the sibling adjusts to the new situation and develops a close bond. Sibling rivalry grows during the middle childhood, because they are compared with one another more than before. Often, those kids feel like their new family member is taking his parents and relatives away from him, and that is a reason why they start to get frustrated, jealous and competitive towards the baby.
