The Pigman is a young adult novel by American author Paul Zindel. First published in , it focuses on a pair of teenagers, John and Lorraine, and their complex relationship with an old man, Angelo Pignati. As they get to know Mr. Pignati, whom they think is a simple old hermit, they discover that his life story is much richer than they assumed. Although it was controversial for its frank language and discussion of sexuality, it is considered a classic in the young adult genre and remains a frequent reading assignment in middle and high schools. Zindel wrote a screenplay for a film or stage adaptation, but it has yet to be produced.
