As immigration fuelled by globalisation increases, acquiring an additional language continues to be an important aspect of ensuring that people become integrated into new societies that they find themselves in as they move to new countries for education or work. In Australia, immigration has increased drastically as people move to the country for work, education, or to seek asylum. In this process, as an English speaking country, immigrants who come to Australia, have to learn English as a second language within the shortest time possible for integration into the society. While for adults the second language learning is majorly influenced by their desire to fit into the workplace, children of immigrants have to acquire the language for education as well as socialisation needs as they strive to create a new social environment in the new society.
